This is a Necromancer build for competitive PvP with a medium level of damage output and a high level of damage absorbtion plus minions, crowd control, and the ability to roam with a constant swiftness buff. The required skill to effectively play this build is about average. It deals damage at a range of melee to 900 yards, offers high survivability, tons of mobility, and can also assist with bunkering. It’s a very versatile build.
The attractive aspect of this build is that you can fill in multiple roles while having a great PvP experience. The main point of this build rests purely on maintaining your pets and auto attacking constantly to stay in the game. More on this later! Let’s go over the basics first.
Boon Duration +1%
All minion skills related to death magic will give you more survivability by siphoning health of your targets.
Minion Master: Minion summoning skills recharge 20% faster. Your minions need to stay alive as much as possible. This lets you summon them multiple times during a match.
Dark Armor: 400 more toughness while channeling. This is a must-have.
Flesh of the Master: Minions have 50% more health points. This one’s fairly necessary as well. You’ll need your minions alive in order to siphon health.
Healing Power +10
Dagger Mastery: Dagger skills recharge 20% faster. Since dagger skills already have a short cooldown, this one isn’t quite as mandatory.
Bloodthirst: Siphoning health is 50% more effective.
Vampiric Master: Minions siphon health and transfer it to you.
Critical Damage +1%
Life Force Pool +1%
Vital Persistence: Life force drains slower in Death Shroud mode (survivability).
Spectral Mastery: Spectral skills recharge 20% faster (roaming).
Soul reaping will give you your awesome roaming ability or an extra way to be even more tankish with a prolonged Death Shroud.
Minions offer the Necromancer a wide arsenal of crowd control abilities and more importantly a nice amount of siphoned health from their targets. I will explain what minions you need for this build based on their attack style and ability.
This minion does ranged attacks and has a very handy rooting ability.
Rigor Mortis – Immobilize your bone fiend, and it will immobilize foes.
This minion offers a ranged siphoning ability and a restore health on a short cooldown.
Taste of Death – Sacrifice your blood fiend to heal yourself.
A critter-like creature with a fast attack speed and a low health pool. These minions will often die on you, make sure you re-summon them or make them explode (Putrid Explosion) before they die.
Putrid Explosion – Explode a bone minion.
Charge – Command your flesh golem to charge a foe.
Summon an immobile flesh wurm to attack foes.
This minion is the best Necromancer has to offer when it comes to minions. This pet does great damage, has a knockdown ability, and takes beatings like a champ.
Necrotic Traversal – Sacrifice your flesh wurm, teleport to it, and poison foes.
A phantom-like minion that uses melee attacks to damage their targets and has “Blind” as a special ability.
Haunt – Command your shadow fiend to teleport to and blind a foe.
The reason why this build does not include Flesh Wurm is because it offers no mobility and has a longer cooldown then most basic minions.
Death Shroud is a great way to survive a beating while running away or using it for that extra crowd control.
Death Shroud abilities:
Blast a foe with life force, dealing more damage when you are closer to your target.
15s cooldown. Send out a claw. If this attack hits a foe, you teleport to that foe and chill nearby foes.
20s cooldown. Make your foe flee in fear. Increased duration at close range.
40s cooldown. Damage nearby foes and steal their life force.
Primary Weapon – Dagger and Horn
Necrotic Slash (autoattack)
0.25s cooldown. Slash your foe twice.
Necrotic Stab (autoattack)
Strike your foe again.
Necrotic Bite (autoattack)
Strike your foe and gain life force.
3.5s cooldown. Siphon health from your foe.
1s cooldown. Immobilize your foe.
Wail of Doom
0.5s cooldown. Screech a wail of doom in a cone pattern, dazing foes.
1s cooldown. Gain swiftness and summon a swarm of locusts that cripple nearby foes.
There is no rotation, keep at range of your target to auto attack and siphon their health. Your main abilities will be Necrotic Slash and Life Siphon. Locust Swarm is used in order to roam or flee giving your enemies a nice speed debuff. Locust Swarm in combination with Spectral Walk will offer you one of the best ways to roam that the game has to offer with no cooldown on swiftness.
Secondary Weapon – Axe and Focus
0.75s cooldown. Slash your foe twice with ghostly claws to make them vulnerable.
2.25s cooldown. Summon spectral claws to slash your foe in a quick flurry of strikes, gaining life force per strike.
1s cooldown. Cripple nearby foes and remove a boon. Gain retaliation for each foe you strike.
0.75s cooldown. Send out a scythe that bounces between foes and allies. Causes vulnerability on foes and regeneration on allies.
1.25s cooldown. Chill your target and remove up to three boons, dealing extra damage based on the number of boons removed.
Again, no rotation. Use the axe weapon abilities when you want to have a 900-yard distance between you and your targets. This weapon set offers a great way to aid your team by using Rending Claws to stack vulnerability on a target and grind Life Force with the Chastly Claws ability. Unholy Feast will be used when you are being attacked by more than one player and when you need to create some distance.
The retaliation buff gives you a nice bonus which could tip the scale for you in a battle against a melee class. Against a Guardian or any class that uses a lot of buffs, the use of Spinal Shivers will give you a great bonus.
Dagger: Sigil of Superior Battle – 3x stacks of might for 20 seconds.
Horn: Sigil of Superior Bloodlust – Stacks 10+ to power each time you kill a player with a limit up to 25 stacks.
Axe: Sigil of Superior Battle – 3x stacks of might for 20 seconds.
Focus: Sigil of Superior Bloodlust – Stacks 10+ to power each time you kill a player with a limit up to 25 stacks.
Armor and Amulet:
Armor: Superior Rune of Vampirism 6/6.
Armor Rune: Superior Rune of Vampirism.
+25 Power, 5% chance to cause your next attack to steal health when hit (Cooldown: 15s), +50 Power, Your next attack after using your healing skill steals health, +90 Power, and You become mist when you fall below 10%.
Amulet: Soldier’s Amulet in combination with Soldier’s Jewel.
This combo gives you a good amount of both power and survivability.
Why this setup? Superior Rune of Vampirism for the extra power upgrade and the health stealing. The weapon sigils are great since you’re essentially a tank with minions.
Your end stats with this setup will be: 27,812 health points, 3.152 power, 916 precision, 4% critical chance, 1860 vitality and toughness, and last but not least– +300 to healing and a 30% buff to boon duration.
Tips and Tricks
- Capping points with this build is possible. You’re able to roam with a slight change to your abilities.
- The best tip I will give you is to make your character as small as possible. Go Asura. You’ll have a smaller profile than those other clunky players.
- This build will make you a tank, but only when you stay in melee range and your pets remain alive to siphon health.
- You pets have a short respawn cooldown, so when your pets die, don’t give up. Just wait it out by staying close to your group or maybe cap a few points out of threat range.
- Roaming is a possibility without a change to your abilities, but for maximum roaming purposes you will need to implement the Spectral Walk ability with the Spectral Mastery trait. This lets you roam with a constant swiftness buff.
- Keep your minions up whenever possible.
- Stay away from water as it will de-summon your minions.
