guardian bunker title

Hello! Killerx here to help guide you on the role of PvP Bunkering as a Guardian. The purpose of being a Bunker is to stay on a cap point and keep and defend it. You stay alive by using your abilities and avoiding enemy player attacks while holding your ground at your cap point. Make no mistake– you may die quite a bit– but that’s okay as long as you’re certain your team members are there to help win the day and and hold your team’s cap point.

Teamwork is essential to being a successful Bunker. Your team must have your back when necessary while you are defending. If your team is slacking off and they are not responding to your gurgling cries of help, try to stay alive as long as possible. Do not give your cap point away for free. Let the enemy work for it! Don’t ever forget that.

molten weapon

On April 30th we’re going to be receiving the final update to the Flame and Frost world event, which is being called Flame and Frost: Retribution. Where will we strike our retribution? In a new dungeon! This new Living Story dungeon is called Molten Weapon Facilities and will feature our NPC comrades Rox and Braham as well as an end boss fight that seems mighty intriguing from the looks of the screenshots. We’re also going to finally be able to create our own custom PvP Arena matches and take a peek at matches in progress using the new Spectator mode that will be debuting in beta form with the update.

In addition, we’ll be getting new World vs. World abilities, new guild missions, and guild siege weapons and back banners that can be used during WvW. For more information, check out ArenaNet’s updated Flame and Frost: Retribution information page. There are also a few screenshots of the new dungeon on there, so make sure to check those out as well!

leaderboards

Yesterday we finally gained access to one Guild Wars 2 tool that has been requested for quite some time now: Leaderboards! Players can access PvP ranks, WvW ranks, and a list of our top achievers in the game by going to this section of the official Guild Wars 2 site. Leaderboards currently feature rank positions, rank totals, character names, account names in some cases, rank adjustments, and rank deviations. ArenaNet is planning more for the tool as well, which Nate Long detailed in a recent developer blog:

“We’re starting with the top 100 users in PvP and Achievements, but over the next few weeks we’ll ramp this number up and add some different ways to slice the data to help you get the most relevant information possible.”

“We have lots of plans for ways we can expand and enhance this data to include more information about more of the game—the current release is just the first taste of what we’re doing. As always, we love hearing what you have to say, so feel free to post any comments, suggestions, ideas, etc. on the forums.”

GW2J Dev Tracker

ArenaNet is still adjusting how structured PvP tournaments work in Guild Wars 2. The latest change is a new map rotation. Instead of rotating to a new map once per week, tournament maps will now rotate to a different one twice per week– on Tuesdays and Fridays. This change first took place yesterday.

Here are the current maps for the rotation:

Almost no movement last week. A lot of sideways alignment from last week in the NA. You can find the discussion of these rankings on the official forums.

With the introduction of paid transfers, could servers be evening out? Will we see any major shifts in the future with guilds like FOE, MERC and others moving around or at least potentially moving?

GW2J Dev Tracker

With Temple of the Silent Storm’s structured paid tournaments taking place this past week in a new, limited time format, many players participated in the tournament. This was a test of sorts for ArenaNet, who wanted to see exactly what players thought about the 1 team vs. 1 team format and the weekly rotation. Jonathan Sharp, GW2 Game Designer, shared his thoughts on the tournament’s success in a couple of short forum posts yesterday:

Hey guys!

Just letting you know that our testing of Temple of the Silent Storm ( and 1 team vs. 1 team) has been a great success!

We’re pleased to announce that we will be extending this test another week, as it has proven to be very popular among players.

Watch for more information about this in an official blog post later this week!

Yep, the test has been extended! He also followed up with another bit of news. Keep reading to take a look.

GW2J Dev Blog2

Today, Colin Johanson posted a long awaited developer blog that gives us insight into the next six months of development for Guild Wars 2. The main focus of the changes come in the forms of rewards and incentives for players to be playing different parts of the game. Colin breaks down the game into three spheres: sPVP, PVE and WvW. Each portion of the game should see some upgrades to the way players earn rewards. Whether it’s achievements that reward tokens to buy gear or WvW prestige ranks that award new skills and abilities, big things are coming for Guild Wars 2.

ArenaNet has quite a bit in store for Guild Wars 2 fans in 2013. The team has already began discussing their plans for updates we’ll be seeing early on in the year, including custom arenas, leaderboards, and 1 team vs. 1 team PvP matches for tournaments. On the PvE front, we also received an update from Colin Johanson who talked about the January and February game updates as well as some future plans to make fighting mobs out in the world a little more interesting. Here’s the first bit of news:

There will be a blog post in around week or so that summarizes the high level plan for the first 6 months of 2013 for Gw2.

Then each of the individual releases for January, February, etc. will have their own release pages on our website, as well as blog posts describing specific important new features where appropriate.

More info coming in about a week once it’s all edited and localized!

wintersday tale

On the official forums yesterday, sc0rn’s Commander, Honnor, left a clever variation on a classic holiday tune for WvW players to enjoy. Yes, you read me right. With Wintersday here and the holidays right around the corner, what better way to celebrate the season than with a little nighttime WvW prep? Figure out what song what I’m referencing yet? I know– I’m being pretty cryptic.

Here it is: ‘Twas the Night Before Reset!

’Twas the night before Reset! front gate to supply house,
Nothing stirred in the Garrison, not even a mouse;
The Backpacks were hung, ’round supply hut with care,
In hopes that St. Tinker* soon would be there.

The Guilds were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Golems danced in their heads.
With Fortify done, and a full colored Map,
They had all settled down for a long winter’s nap;
When beyond the outer gate there arose such a clatter,
The Commanders JUMPED UP >:( to see what was the matter.
Away to the Walls, they flew ready for the clash >:(
Tore open there Backpacks! and threw up Guild stash!

Keep reading to see the rest!
